Personal Anecdotes

February 03, 2025
- “A Day Without Immigrants” was set to make a movement where thousands of individuals were spreading the word across social media to not attend school, work, not make any purchases, and protest the streets. Multiple businesses shut down for this event in order to showcase their support. After hearing about the protest I asked my friends if they were still going to attend school and all of them stated “Yeah why wouldn’t I” and one in particular mentioned, “it’s not going to make a difference if I do or don’t go.” I asked my parents and grandparents if they were going to go to work and they mentioned “Well if I don’t go to work then I don’t get paid.” Sadly enough, this was the reality for many individuals, although wanting to join the movement, many could not afford to take the day off. Yet on the flip side, there were several protest taking place where adults, students & businesses attended. A restaurant in Indianapolis that closed 02/03 stated, “In light of the prevailing political environment that has welcomed violence and animosity within our communities, we recognized the necessity of taking action. Our involvement in this movement serves as a rejection of the harmful narrative that portrays immigrants as a threat.” Anywhere one looks online they will see protesters mentioning “Immigrants make America Great,” “F**k ICE,” “La voz de mi familia,” “Keep families together,” and much more.
